Social Networking Tools in The Media Center

To Tweet or not to Tweet....

Social networking tools are an integral part of the future of school libraries. These valuable resource tools are integral methods of organizing, cataloging and retrieving information.

Twitter is a useful networking tool that can be used to obtain information on the latest technology in the field, learn about upcoming events, useful websites and new books. Delicious can be used to organize popular and commonly used sites for easier access to information. LibraryThing and Shelfari are exceptional networking and organizational tools which allow you to
tag, organize and review books. These sites can be used in a school library to provide teachers with previews of new books in your collection or books on a specific unit of study. Nings can be used to combine all of the social networking tools to create student projects or library websites.

All of these innovative tools used solely or together are librarian's organizational tools of the future.

  1. I love the picture you choose to go with your article. I believe Twitter is a great way to find out new information from professionals or even authors (which I choose to follow!) -Erin
